If you shop at BJ’s Wholesale Club and keep a bag of frozen salmon on standby for weeknight dinners, take a minute to check the label. A frozen salmon product sold at the retailer is being recalled due to possible listeria contamination, according to a release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recall involves one specific lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon sold in late January and early February.
The salmon — sold at BJ’s under its Wellsley Farms label and distributed by Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. — comes in a 2-pound bag labeled “Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon.”

According to the FDA release, a random sample collected by the agency tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Yikes.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled lot, and the distributor is investigating how the contamination may have occurred.
Which Product Is Affected?
The recall applies only to lot number 3896 with UPC code 888670025963. Both numbers appear on the back of the package, below the cooking instructions.
The salmon was sold from Jan. 31 through Feb. 7 at BJ’s stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
What Customers Should Do
If you have purchased the affected lot, do not eat it and can call 1-888-628-0730 for instructions on obtaining a refund and how to dispose of the salmon. BJ’s is contacting members who may have purchased the product.
The FDA notes that listeria infection can cause fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of serious complications. Anyone experiencing symptoms should contact a health care provider.
