A recall of grated cheese from a manufacturer supplying several major brands was just announced. It hits at a terrible time as people gear up for Thanksgiving, the biggest food holiday. The Ambriola Company has issued a recall for some of its grated pecorino romano cheese products, according to a recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It covers a number of products from two brands so far, including Boar’s Head and Locatelli, but more may be added. Here’s what we know about the cheese recall.
What’s Wrong with the Cheese?

The Ambriola Company’s recalled cheese may be contaminated with Listeria, according to the FDA. Thankfully, no illnesses have been reported linked to the recalled pecorino romano cheese.
Eating food contaminated with Listeria can cause listeriosis, an infection that can be especially serious in the elderly, pregnant women, newborns, and people with weakened immune systems. It causes flu-like symptoms, including fever, muscle aches, headaches, and even convulsions. Usually, an infection is treated with antibiotics.
Which Cheeses Are Recalled?

The Ambiola Company supplies the recalled pecorino romano cheese to several other companies, including Locatelli and Boar’s Head, which is still reeling from a listeria outbreak in deli meat that killed multiple people last year. These are the products included in this cheese recall so far, which include grated and pre-cut wedges, as well as a salad and a wrap.
