Another brand of aerosol deodorant spray has been recalled because of the cancer-causing chemical benzene.

The newest recall affects Suave deodorant. It comes on the heels of another voluntary recall of Brut and Sure spray products.
While benzene is not an ingredient in any of the recalled products, a review found the chemical in the propellant that sprays the deodorant out of the can. It’s classified as a human carcinogen, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and has been linked to leukemia and blood cancer.
The products being recalled nationwide are:
- Brut Classic Antiperspirant Aerosol, 4 oz. (UPC 00827755070085)
- Brut Classic Antiperspirant Aerosol, 6 oz. (UPC 000827755070108)
- Brut Classic Deodorant Aerosol, 10 oz. (UPC 00827755070047)
- Sure Regular Antiperspirant Aerosol, 6 oz. (UPC 00883484002025)
- Sure Unscented Antiperspirant Aerosol, 6 oz. (UPC 00883484002278)
- Suave 24-Hour Protection Aerosol Antiperspirant Powder, 4 oz. and 6 oz. (UPC 079400751508 and 079400784902)
- Suave Suave 24-Hour Protection Aerosol Antiperspirant Fresh, 6 oz. (UPC 079400785503)

The recalled Brut and Sure products have expiration dates of August 2023 or earlier, while the Suave products have expiration dates through September 2023. If you have any of these products, the FDA advises you to stop using them and throw them away. There were even more benzene-related recalls in late 2021. In November, Procter & Gamble recalled several Old Spice and Secret aerosol sprays. A month later, the company also recalled aerosol dry shampoos and conditioners from brands including Pantene, Aussie, and Herbal Essences.
