Whether you’re buying groceries from the supermarket or getting take-out on your lunch break, you expect the food to be safe, clean, and free from anything disgusting. Sounds basic, right?

Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen. Here are 15 of the most disgusting things people have ever found in their food.

1. Frog in Spinach

Imagine opening a fresh bag of spinach, perhaps to make a healthy salad or add to your breakfast smoothie, and discovering a dead frog. That’s what happened to one London woman — who was actually the second person to find a dead frog in a bag of spinach — in the course of two weeks. See, that’s what you get for trying to eat healthy.

2. Frog in Frozen Vegetables

Many consumers know that frozen vegetables often have just as many nutrients as fresh vegetables, sometimes even more. But you probably don’t expect to find a frozen frog when you open a bag of frozen peas or carrots. A Michigan man, however, was startled to find a dead frozen frog in his mixed vegetables.

3. Feces in Subway Sandwich

When you’re eating on the go, it’s often hard to find a healthy option. That’s why Subway markets itself as a healthier choice for busy professionals. But most people don’t expect to find remnants of feces in their footlongs. Unfortunately, a Michigan State University student posted a TikTok video alleging that her Subway sandwich smelled like sewage and had traces of feces.

4. Black Widow Spider in Grapes

Most people have a healthy fear of spiders. Even if you are not afraid, this might make you think twice about those arachnids. One Boston man said he saw not one, but two Black Widow spiders in some grapes he bought at a Whole Foods store. Unfortunately for the man and his son, the spiders were still alive — and still deadly. No one was hurt.

5. Feces in Shrimp Fried Rice

Chinese take-out is a popular staple if you don’t feel like cooking and want easy comfort food. But that wasn’t the case for one Miami man who discovered what he claims was poop in his fried rice. It’s still hard to say where the feces came from, but there had been no complaints at the restaurant before.

6. Metal in Wendy’s Fries

Most kids beg their parents to buy them fast food, but that might not be the case for one 12-year-old Chicago child. While out with her father, she took a bite of her Wendy’s fries and accidentally bit into a piece of metal, about an inch long. Wendy’s couldn’t say how the metal got into the fries, but apparently the girl was terrified to eat out or at school following the ordeal.

7. Fake Nail in Taco

There’s nothing better than a day spent pampering yourself, maybe with an order of tacos and a day at the nail salon. But most women don’t want their nails and their food mixing. A Texas woman said she got take-out from a local Mexican restaurant and discovered a press-on nail inside her tacos. Press-on nails can come off easily — so be careful next time you bite into your carnitas tacos.

8. Frog in Soda

There’s nothing more refreshing than opening up a can of soda and taking that first swig. Nothing can ruin those first few sips faster than finding a frog in your drink. That’s exactly what happened to one Florida man when he opened a can of Diet Pepsi while he was cooking. That’s one way to curb your soda intake.

9. Fingernail in a Culver’s Burger

If you’re enjoying a burger from Midwest-based chain Culver’s, you’re probably loving the butter-infused flavor. So what would happen if you find a fingernail — right in the middle of the burger? Gross. That was the case for an Arizona man who discovered a full fingernail in his burger. Surveillance footage later revealed that one of the Culver’s employees was making burgers without gloves on — and sans a fingernail.

10. Dead Rodent in a Subway Sandwich

A sandwich should have a few different components, like tasty bread, a good mix of meat or vegetables and one or two condiments. One thing you don’t want in a sandwich? A dead rodent. But a Subway customer found exactly that when he unwrapped his Italian sandwich. It’s not clear how the little guy found his way in.

11. Bandaid in a Pizza Hut Pizza

Pizzas can come with a variety of different toppings, and everyone has a preference. One thing no one wants to see on top of their pizza? A used bandaid. Unfortunately, when a Pizza Hut customer bit into a slice of pizza he felt something chewy and plastic-y. It was a used bandaid. Not exactly what you want to find in your slice.

12. Feather Found in McNugget

McDonald’s McNuggets are one of its most-popular items. And while everyone wants to believe that their McNuggets are fresh, there are some parts of the chicken that no one wants to eat, like a feather. An Indiana woman found a feather remnant in her McNuggets order. As someone who raises her own chickens, the customer instantly knew what she had eaten.

13. Razor Blade in a Wendy’s Soda

It’s impossible to understand how a razor blade could find its way into a soda, but that’s exactly what occurred when one child took a healthy swig from her Wendy’s soda cup. The incident remains a mystery — was someone shaving at work? Was this a dopp kit accident? Even Wendy’s officials couldn’t find a definitive answer to that one.

14. Piece of Human Skin in an Arby’s Sandwich

Arby’s motto is, “We have the meats.” But do they mean human meat as well? An Ohio man was enjoying his Arby’s chicken sandwich when he discovered a piece of human skin on his sandwich. Apparently the piece came from one of the workers accidentally slicing their finger and not disposing of the piece of skin properly.

15. Shrimp in a Cereal Box

Everyone loves a box of breakfast cereal, but what about shrimp in your cereal? That’s what comedian Jensen Karp found in his cereal — shrimp tails. The saga unfolded on Twitter with Karp also discovering a piece of string, as well as black marks on some of the cereal, possibly indicating rat feces.
