Need a little boost to get you through that midday hump? Same here. When it comes to snacks, though, not all are created equal. Ideally, you’re looking for high-protein, low-calorie snacks such as spruced-up edamame, pinwheels stuffed with lean meat and low-fat cheese, and elevated veggie snacks that provide sustained energy without a sugar crash.

Here are 10 delicious, nourishing snacks and quick meal ideas that Redditors say give them a boost of energy without weighing them down.

Add Protein Powder to Non-Fat Greek Yogurt

Though adding protein powder to non-fat Greek yogurt sounds slightly questionable, one Redditor says the result is a “tangy, high-protein pudding,” which sounds absolutely delicious. Packed with probiotics, calcium, and protein, yogurt can support digestive health and — coupled with the protein powder — can help give you a nice energy boost. For an added touch of sweetness, add a dash of honey, granola, or fruit to make the concoction even more delicious.

Hummus paired with sliced veggies is another solid (and affordable!) choice for a healthy snack that doesn’t compromise on taste or nutrition, Redditors say. “You can buy hummus at reasonable prices at places like Coscto, or you can make it yourself with just chickpeas, sesame seeds, olive oil, lemon juice, and any seasonings you like,” writes one user, adding, “I love roasted garlic and Aleppo pepper in mine. Makes a great spread or dip for flatbread or veggies like cucumber and carrots.”

Edamame (a popular Japanese snack made from whole, immature soybeans) make for a nutritious and protein-rich snack and offers a surprising range of health benefits. They’re packed with essential amino acids, fiber, and vitamins that not only stave off hunger, but also support muscle growth.

Buy them in steam-ready bags for less than $5, or opt for dry-roasted ones, as one Redditor suggests. “One of the great features of dried edamame is that it is Very Dry,” the user writes. “Eat a handful of them and you will immediately crave a glass of water to wash it down and help you feel full.”
