Traveling is one of life’s greatest pleasures, but the sheer amount of time and effort it takes to plan a trip can turn people off from the experience entirely.

Luckily, AI has not yet risen up to enslave us, and we’ve still got some time to ask it for help with stuff like this. From travel budgeting to hotel recommendations, here are eight ways to get ChatGPT’s help with you next vacation.

Plan a Budget

This is probably the best place to start, ya know? Figure out if the trip is even worth it by asking ChatGPT for a ballpark number, and be sure to factor in costs like plane tickets, hotel accommodations, specific meals, and attractions. Hopefully it won’t scare you off like mine just did.

Airline Help

Flights are a true ordeal. Between finding the right days to buy and the right days to travel, it can suck up hours of your time. Give ChatGPT the important deets — including general or specific dates and whether you prefer a particular airline — and let it guide you in the right direction.

Other Methods of Transportation

Flying isn’t the only method of travel, though. Ever consider hopping on a train? ChatGPT can give you a sense of what to expect. When I asked if I could take a train from Los Angeles to Portland, Maine, it gave me Amtrak routes, an estimated route time, and information about other modes of transport I would need to complete my trip.

Get a Sense of the Weather

I went to Italy last summer and it was spectacular. Duh, it’s Italy. It was also 106 degrees the entire time, and since I’m a huge baby about that kind of thing, I had a miserable experience at the exact same time.

Check the weather.

Looking for the right hotel can be one of the most grueling parts of planning a trip. Take it off your plate by asking ChatGPT for a list that fits your needs.

Consider Alternate Dates

Unfortunately, our own schedules don’t always line up with the best time to travel. It’s worth thinking about a different time of year to take your trip if it makes the whole thing a better experience. ChatGPT can help determine the best alternate dates.

Restaurant Recommendations

If you don’t know anybody in town or are too shy to talk to strangers, ChatGPT can be helpful when recommending restaurants. But keep in mind that there is no substitute for an actual human being’s recommendation when it comes to food.

I live in Asheville, and I can confirm that most of the places on the list provided by ChatGPT are not even close to locals-only. This is a great way to start, but if you want real human recommendations … ask a human.

Embrace Mystery

Who says you even need to know where you want to go? ChatGPT can help you with that one, too. Give it a couple general details and let it plan the rest for you.
