It’s official: ChatGPT has entered the chat, and it’s here to stay. With the ability to handle customer service inquiries, create detailed travel itineraries, process orders, and even crack a joke or two, chatbots and artificial intelligence (AI) are revolutionizing the way we live and work.

But with great power comes great responsibility, and some jobs may soon find themselves on the chopping block as more sophisticated software and bots turn a growing number of careers obsolete. Here are 11 roles across different fields that could be replaced by AI in the near future.

AI-powered chatbots can interact with customers while providing them with accurate information about products or services, thereby reducing the need for a human workforce. Chatbots can also personalize the interaction based on each customer’s preferences and past behaviors to enhance customer experience. In short: Robots could be more efficient — and make less mistakes — than human telemarketers. (Darn you, bots.)

Since AI software can perform data entry tasks faster and more accurately than humans, this means certain technical jobs that require programming, coding, or data entry could be largely reduced — or even eliminated. Bots can also analyze data and identify patterns that humans might not notice, allowing companies to identify what works and what doesn’t, and make efficient data-driven decisions.

I’ve always thought of number-crunching and taxes as something best left up to the experts. But is that true, or is TurboTax just really good at stressing us out? Believe it or not, AI can automate complex accounting tasks like data entry, bookkeeping, and financial analysis more effectively than humans can. This can lead to more accurate financial reporting and analysis, as well as reduced overheard costs for businesses and increased efficiency when it comes to filing taxes.

With the development of autonomous or self-driving trucks, there is a possibility that physical drivers will no longer be needed to operate vehicles. According to a 2022 study, approximately 90% of all highway trucking could be impacted by automation in the near future. Self-driving trucks can also operate 24/7 without requiring rest — making them not only more efficient and cost-effective, but also safer than human-driven trucks.
