Nissan has recalled 809,000 compact SUVs in the United States and Canada. The vehicles have a nasty little glitch — they can shut off for no reason while driving.
In the U.S. the recall covers more than 712,000 Rogue S models manufactured from 2014 to 2020 and smaller Rogue Sport S models produced from 2017 to 2020. In addition, nearly 100,000 vehicles have been recalled in Canada, where the Rogue Sport is called the Qashqai.

The problem is the vehicles’ jackknife keys, which don’t always stay in the extended position. The key might fold down while the vehicle is being driven, resulting in the ignition possibly turning off when inadvertently touched or bumped.
Nissan hasn’t found a fix for the defect but asks that customers contact a dealership if the key doesn’t stay in the extended position. The automaker says owners will receive a letter in March advising them not to attach anything to the fob and will follow up with another letter about taking their vehicles in for repairs.
The good news? Nissan says it knows of no accidents or injuries caused by the defective keys.
