Frozen nutritional supplement shakes have been recalled because of a serious illness threat. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of shakes distributed by Lyons Magnus on Feb. 22, 2025.

Here’s what we know about the recall.

Nutritional supplement shakes made by Prairie Farms and distributed by Lyons Magnus are being recalled because they may contain Listeria monocytogenes.

So far, 38 illnesses have been reported due to the contaminated product, and unfortunately, there have been 11 deaths.

What Is Listeria?

Eating food contaminated with Listeria can cause listeriosis, an infection that can be especially serious in the elderly, pregnant women and newborns, and people with weakened immune systems. It causes flu-like symptoms including fever, muscle aches, headaches, and even convulsions. Usually, an infection is treated with antibiotics.

The recalled frozen nutritional supplement shakes are labeled Lyons ReadyShare or Sysco Imperial. They come in 4-ounce paper milk carton-style packages and were distributed nationwide. A full list of flavors, best by dates, and photos of the products are available on a press release from Lyons Magnus.

Could I Have the Shakes in My Home?

No, it’s very unlikely that you have any of the recalled products in your home because they were not available for sale in any stores. They were only distributed to facilities like nursing homes and other long-term care facilities for the elderly. If you have a friend or family member who lives in community elder care, you can contact the facility to ask about the availability of the recalled nutritional supplement shakes.

If you have the product, such as if you work in a long-term care facility, you should “quarantine the recalled product,” according to the FDA. Anyone with questions can go to the Lyons Magnus website for details, or email the company at [email protected].
