Party City went out of business a couple of years ago, leaving many people without a way to get affordable supplies for birthdays, graduations, and baby showers locally. If you’re in that category, you may be able to grab balloons and colorful napkins once again — but you’ll have to head to Staples to do it.
Party City products are now sold in hundreds of Staples locations, which is a welcome, if unusual, partnership. Here’s what you need to know about the Party City comeback.
Staples Resurrects Party City
Back in 2023, Party City filed for bankruptcy, and at the end of 2024 it announced that it was going out of business completely. All of its stores closed, and about 12,000 employees were laid off.
That seemed like the end of the party supply store. Until this week, when Staples announced that it was bringing back the chain as part of its own stores. Now you’ll be able to get printer ink, Swingline staplers, and helium balloons all in one place. Yay?
“By bringing Party City into Staples stores, we’re expanding what customers can accomplish in one place — combining helium balloons and party supplies with our print and marketing services to offer a complete solution for celebrations, from graduations to grand openings and everything in between,” said a press release about the partnership.
They’re not just talking about a few locations, either. You can already get Party City items at over 700 Staples locations nationwide, and they’re planning to add to that total by the end of the year.
Balloons and Deals Galore
When you walk into a Staples, it’s still going to look like a Staples, of course — there’s only going to be an area of Party City merchandise. They will sell “party décor, tableware, gift bags, costume accessories and favors,” according to the press release.
The biggest draw will probably be the helium balloons, something you definitely don’t expect to find in an office supply store normally. Mylar and latex balloons are available, and you can even order balloons on the Staples website ahead of time.
To celebrate the Party City resurrection, Staples is running some great sales, which is music to our ears with graduation parties right around the corner. Here are the current promotions:
