Pizza Hut has been promoting literacy and education for decades through its BookIt! Program founded in 1984. The initiative encourages young readers in Pre-K through sixth grade to explore the magical world of books. When kids hit their reading goals — whether it’s a certain number of minutes, pages, or books set by parents or teachers — they earn a “Reading Award Certificate” for a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza. Since its inception, more than 1.5 billion pizzas have been given to young readers through this program.

In addition to giving away free pizzas, Pizza Hut has worked on expanding access to reading materials across the country. They’ve provided discounted or even free books to teachers in Title 1 schools, helping educators get the resources they need to encourage a love of reading in students. This is all part of Pizza Hut’s broader initiative to support literacy and education.
