Sam’s Club

Your groceries can now arrive at your doorstep sooner than you expect. Walmart-owned Sam’s Club launched an enhanced tier to its three-hour Express delivery across 600 locations, with delivery in one hour or less, the retailer announced in a press release.

Club members can choose the one-hour Express delivery for $22 or pay $17 for the standard three-hour option, while Plus members pay $10 for one-hour delivery and $5 for the three-hour service.

“Members love our three hours or less Express delivery, but they told us they wanted an even faster option—so, we delivered,” said Greg Pulsifer, Senior Vice President, eCommerce at Sam’s Club in the statement. “We continue to differentiate ourselves as a leader in club retail through true omnichannel shopping experiences: in-club, online, in-app, Curbside Pickup, and fast delivery—allowing members to shop how they want.”

According to the Sam’s Club website, since the new delivery option was tested and launched across 600 locations, the retailer completed around 65,000 Express deliveries in which “the average Express order is placed, shopped, and delivered in just 55 minutes.”

The express delivery was mostly placed on everyday essentials, including water, diapers, produce and household necessities.

Some deliveries, the retailer said, arrived well before the one-hour window, including a daycare in Fargo, North Dakota, that received Member’s Mark baby formula in less than 9 minutes, and a family in Amarillo, Texas, that got diapers and pistachios in 11 minutes.

“Our 10 fastest deliveries to date were all fulfilled in less than 12 minutes. When members need emergency baby essentials or dinners on the fly, we’re not just delivering speed, but peace of mind and time back so they can focus on the things that matter most,” Pulsifer said.

Members have yet to see if faster grocery delivery is worth the recently announced membership price increase starting May 1, with annual fees for Club members rising from $50 to $60 and Plus memberships increasing from $110 to $120.
