This year has been rife with economic uncertainty and while some predict a recession is headed our way, it’s no question that there are still companies battling for the top talent. Thanh Nguyen, co-founder & CEO of OpenComp, predicted in a December 2022 Forbes article, that sign-on bonuses and even retention bonuses would continue to play a role in gaining and maintaining workers. Here’s a list of companies offering hefty sign-on bonuses for all levels of jobs.

Banfield Pet Hospital

Banfield Pet Hospital began offering sign-on bonuses of up to $200,000 for veterinarians last year. The company website said they would offer these bonuses from 9/28 to “year-end” however multiple jobs currently available continue to offer bonuses, so it appears a hefty bonus is still available. It also has veterinary technician jobs offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Amazon

The e-commerce giant has multiple opportunities for sign-on bonuses ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. To earn the total bonus, you may have to stay at the same job for over 180 days, as bonuses are paid out in installments.

AT&T

Certain installation technician jobs at AT&T qualify for a $5,000 sign-on bonus on top of an average pay of $20.26 and $27.52 per hour. There is also a progressive sign-on bonus for customer service representatives that awards $500 after 30 days, $1,500 after 6 months, and $1,500 after 12 months.

Verizon

Like its competitor AT&T, Verizon offers sign-on bonuses to some new employees. Business sales account executives may be eligible for up to a $10,000 bonus paid after three months of employment which the company states is “subject to the terms and conditions of the bonus agreement.” Even entry-level jobs like retail sales associate positions may qualify for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500 with half paid after one month and the remainder after nine months.

Marriot

The hospitality giant, Marriot, is offering sign-on bonuses for various positions. For example, a position as a senior banquet manager comes with a $5,000 sign-on bonus. Other positions eligible for bonuses include $5,000 for a senior group sales manager and even $1,500 for a laundry attendant.

Hilton

Not to be outdone by Marriot, many new employees at Hilton are also eligible for sign-on bonuses. For example, coffee baristas can get  $500 to $1,000 sign-on bonuses. Multiple other positions have bonuses as well.

Kimberly-Clark

Kimberly-Clark manufactures mostly paper-based consumer products like Huggies and Cottonelle. Right now, electrical maintenance technicians, maintenance mechanics, machinists, and more can qualify for a $2,500- $5,000 sign-on bonus. A portion of the bonus is typically paid out after 90 days with the rest after 1 year of service.

United Airlines

Ramp agents in some locations qualify for a $1,000 sign-on bonus from United Airlines, plus the ability to fly for free. That’s a significant decrease from January 2022 when it offered $15,000 to ramp agents. Other United Airlines jobs with sign-on bonuses include $10,000 for storeroom workers, $20,000 to $50,000 for aircraft maintenance technicians depending on location and experience, and $5,000 for facilities management technicians.

Walgreens

Walgreens is offering hefty sign-on bonuses for pharmacists. In some locations, pharmacists could get up to $75,000, although the average amount is lower. Even transferring from one Walgreens store to another may qualify you for the bonus. “This is one of many steps to address pharmacy staffing in some areas, in order to best meet the needs of our customers and patients,” Walgreens stated.

CVS

Although not as lucrative as Walgreens, pharmacy competitor CVS also has some sing-on bonus eligible positions. Bonuses range from $1,000 for pharmacy technicians to $5,000 for some Licensed Practical Nurses. Bonuses are available at locations throughout the U.S. For most bonuses, you must stay with the company for at least one year or repay the bonus in full.

Caterpillar

Caterpillar is offering sign-on bonuses for many positions, including up to $10,000 for shop technicians, truck shop forepeople, and field technicians. On its website, Caterpillar says, “Please note that a hiring bonus is subject to the Company’s discretion based upon current employment needs, the position, qualifications of the candidate and other determinations of the Company.”

PepsiCo

Various positions in the east at PepsiCo currently come with a nice sign-on bonus. Class A CDL drivers can get up to $5,000 paid out over the course of a year while merchandisers can get up to $2,000 for stocking shelves in some locations.

Waste Management

CDL truck drivers can get up to $7,500 as a sign-on bonus in some parts of the country. In other areas, perhaps where worker demand or cost of living isn’t so high, bonuses are more modest but still up to $1,500.

Baptist Health

This not-for-profit healthcare provider in South Florida has sign-on bonuses available for many types of workers. Office workers may qualify for up to $1,000, physical therapists can get $5,000, and some nursing positions are eligible for up to a $20,000 bonus. As of this writing, Baptist Health has over 785 jobs with sign-on bonuses available.

St. Joseph Health System

New graduate nurses can qualify for bonuses starting at $5,000, while bonuses for experienced nurses start at $8,700. In order to keep the bonus, a 24-month commitment is required. Like St. Joseph, many other hospital systems desperate for medical staff are also offering bonuses to attract workers.

Raytheon

Defense and manufacturing company, Raytheon, doesn’t just have a sweet name, but it offers some pretty sweet sign-on bonuses too. For engineers and researchers, the company job board lists sign-on bonus opportunities of $10,000-$30,000 minimum, depending on the job. That means there is a possibility of even higher bonuses.

Burke Williams

Massage therapists can get up to a $2,000 sign-on bonus from the California-based spa company, Burke Williams. According to the job posting, “terms and conditions” apply to the sign-on bonus, but the specifics aren’t listed.

Wegmans

Wegmans is a grocery store chain located primarily in the Northeast. Most jobs qualify for a sign-on bonus of $500, but they are also hiring and offering a $5,000 bonus to CDL truck drivers in several locations.

Mint Dental

Although Mint Dental only has four positions open, the hefty sign-on bonuses may mean other dental practices could be offering bonuses as well. For a two-year commitment, dental hygienists can get a $5,000 sign-on bonus. If they commit to five years with the company, the bonus increases to $10,000. Mint Dental will also provide relocation assistance.

U.S. Border Patrol

The U.S. Border Patrol is offering new recruits a sign-on bonus. Successful completion of the patrol academy training yields a $10,000 incentive bonus and if you take a job in a hard-to-fill location you could get an additional $10,000. A two-year service agreement is required.

Tri-Met

Portland, Oregon’s public transportation system, Tri-Met is offering heft sign-on bonuses as well. Full-time bus operators earn over $75,000 a year and can qualify for a $7,500 sign-on bonus. Plus you don’t need to have a CDL yet to apply. Tri-Met will provide all the training you need.
