Stanley mugs, which have been around for over 100 years but have suddenly become “cool”, have found themselves in the middle of a recall. Some 2.6 million mugs have been recalled, with almost 100 reports worldwide — including 16 in the U.S. — and 38 burn injuries reported.
Which Products Are Being Recalled?

Right now, Stanley is recalling two products: 12 and 16-oz. “Switchback” mugs as well as 12-, 16-, and 20-oz. “Trigger Action” mugs. Here are the affected mugs’ product numbers (you can find yours on the bottom right side of the mug).

Why Is There a Recall?

Apparently, the lids to the Switchback and Trigger Action mugs can shrink if they get too hot, and this can cause the lid to pop off. A nightmare, truly. Imagine: You just waited in line for six hours like an idiot to get a very normal mug and then on the way home, it pops off and hot coffee scalds you — horrible stuff.
Where Were These Mugs Sold?

These mugs were sold at major retailers all over the place, but the main retailers have been Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target.
What Do I Do If My Mug Was Recalled?

Stanley will send you a replacement lid if you call them at 866-792–5445 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time. You can also submit a claim online.
Why Are Stanley Cups So Popular Right Now?

Why does anything get popular? Right now, it seems to be because a bunch of teenagers and influencers on TikTok “discovered” these mugs and told us that we were supposed to love them. It’ll be fun one day when influencers have to get actual jobs.
