Major retailers have been dropping Thanksgiving grocery bundles left and right, aiming to make putting together a Thanksgiving dinner a little easier on the wallet. What Comes in Stop & Shop’s Thanksgiving Dinner?
Stop & Shop’s Thanksgiving dinner costs $40 and serves 10 people. Here’s what comes in the basket:
- 10-pound Shady Brook Farms Frozen Turkey
- 1 16 ounce package Stop & Shop Dinner Rolls
- 2 12 ounce jars Heinz Gravy
- 2 packages Stove Top Stuffing
- 2 cans of Del Monte Vegetables
- 2 packages of Stop & Shop Microwavable Mashed Potatoes
- 1 Reser’s Holiday Side
- 1 can Cranberry Sauce
- 1 carton Swanson Broth or Stock
- 1 container Cool Whip
- 1 8-inch Fresh Bakery Traditional Pumpkin Pie
How Does the Basket Compare to Other Retailers’ Deals?
There are some interesting differences between the Stop & Shop basket and other grocery chains. For starters, this comes with microwavable mashed potatoes, rather than ingredients to make your own. Do you value time or fresh veggies?
You’ve also got a choice here, with Reser’s Holiday sides, and it seems like it will depend on what’s available at your location.
Target’s meal is smaller-scale, serving a family of four for $20. It doesn’t come with dessert, but it’s otherwise very similar to Stop & Shop’s.
Walmart and Aldi’s baskets are also $40 and come with a whole lot more, like sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, and more fresh produce. Kroger’s bundle also costs $40 and comes with a similar amount of food for 10 people.
While you might save some time with the microwavable options Stop & Shop is offering, the value is clearly better elsewhere. Stop & Shop has less food and less fresh produce.
