Trader Joe’s has managed to stand out in an increasingly competitive grocery industry by focusing on a curated selection of private-label products rather than stocking thousands of national brands. The strategy helps keep stores smaller and simpler while allowing the retailer to develop exclusive products that shoppers often can’t find elsewhere.

The company’s loyal following has also been fueled by popular frozen foods, specialty snacks, affordable wine selections, and seasonal products that regularly generate buzz on social media. That combination of value and exclusivity has helped Trader Joe’s continue expanding even as many retailers face increasing competition for consumer spending.

The Bottom Line

From fast-growing Sun Belt cities to established suburban communities, the company is steadily increasing its reach while introducing more consumers to its distinctive product lineup.

As these locations move closer to opening, shoppers in 12 communities will soon have easier access to the products that have made Trader Joe’s one of America’s most popular grocery chains. And if the retailer’s recent growth is any indication, additional store announcements may not be far behind.
