In recent years, more businesses — including prominent retailers — have opted to close their doors during the holidays to show appreciation to their employees.
In 2021, Brian Cornell, Target’s CEO, announced that all Target outlets would remain closed on Thanksgiving Day for the foreseeable future. Cornell said the company made the decision with the “utmost consideration for the well-being of employees and customers.”
Similarly, Walmart CEO John Furner said during a segment on the NBC morning show “Today” that Walmart would be closed on Thanksgiving Day to “allow associates to spend time with their loved ones.”
