With blockbuster movies such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” hitting the big screen, AMC Theatres is bringing back a pre-pandemic perk: $5 movies on Tuesdays all summer. The Discount Tuesdays program was halted when movie theaters sat empty during the height of the pandemic, but as moviegoers flock back to theaters, the chain is once again offering the deal, which runs through Oct. 25.

To get the bargain, moviegoers have to join the free AMC Stubs loyalty program. Besides discounted movies, members also get a free refill on a large popcorn and earn 20 points for every $1 spent. Members who reach 5,000 points get a $5 reward to spend on food and drinks.

For serious movie fans who are constantly at the theater, the Stubs A-List membership level was brought back in July 2021. In addition to everything the free membership offers, A-List members get admission to three movies each week for a monthly fee of $19.95 to $23.95, depending on location, as well as other perks.

Meet the Writer

Jennifer Magid has worked as a writer and editor in publishing and marketing for almost two decades. She has written for outlets ranging from InStyle magazine to Psychology Today and for a number of grocery and personal care brands. Jennifer is frugal by proxy: She is married to a certified cheapskate, which has been good for her wallet but bad for her shoe and handbag collections. These days, she never, ever buys her fashions at full price. Jennifer holds a Master’s in Journalism from New York University. She lives in Connecticut with her family and an admittedly expensive-to-maintain standard poodle — the one anomaly in her cheap lifestyle. Find out more about Jennifer at www.jennifermagid.com.
