Ford hasn’t had the best track record with recalls lately, and that trend is unfortunately continuing. Recently, the car giant recalled over 2 million vehicles for two separate problems, both of which have serious safety concerns if they’re not fixed. If you have a Ford car or SUV, here’s what you need to know about the most recent batch of recalls.
Ford Backup Camera Recall
Over 1.7 million Ford vehicles have been recalled recently because of faulty backup cameras in two separate recalls. In both, the infotainment system (that’s the screen on the dash where the backup video appears) may not properly show the backup camera.
The first recall covers approximately 849,000 SUVs:
- 2021-2026 Ford Bronco
- 2021-2024 Ford Edge
In those vehicles, something called an Accessory Protocol Interface Module may overheat. When that happens, the backup camera may not display anything at all, showing a blank screen instead while in reverse.
The second recall includes almost 890,000 vehicles:
- 2020-2022 Ford Escape
- 2020-2024 Ford Explorer
- 2020-2024 Lincoln Aviator
- 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair
In those vehicles, there is a software issue that may result in the infotainment screen being flipped upside down or inverted as soon as the car is turned on. That includes everything from the navigation buttons to the rear backup camera, which could create perspective issues to drivers using the camera.
Ford Windshield Wiper Recall
A third recall involves approximately 604,000 vehicles:
- 2020-2022 Ford Escape
- 2020-2022 Ford Explorer
- 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair
- 2020-2022 Lincoln Aviator
In the affected cars and SUVs, the windshield wiper’s motor may fail, including while in operation, which can lead to unsafe driving conditions. The problem stems from a misaligned cover on the motor, which can lead to poor electrical connection. Over time, that degrades and can lead to electrical failure to the motor.
