With the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court erased a 50-year precedent recognizing a federal right to abortion. President Joe Biden signed an executive order intended to help protect abortion access, but his office has limited authority to counter state restrictions. In the coming months, about half the states are expected to make abortion illegal, raising questions of access and affordability for many. These organizations can provide financial assistance or other aid no matter where you live.

National Network of Abortion Funds
The National Network of Abortion Funds has created a list of organizations that can help cover the financial and logistical costs of an abortion. If you have to travel out of state to access abortion care, be sure to search for funds in the state where your provider is located as well as your home state.

Through the collaboration of a comprehensive network of partners, the Brigid Alliance helps “book, coordinate and pay for travel, travel expenses, and child care, serving as a single, trusted point of contact for every step of the journey.” The organization provides reimbursements for babysitting services, meal and housing assistance, as well as a dedicated support team to answer any questions.
National Abortion Federation
This pro-choice organization, which refers people across the country to providers that will continue to offer abortion services, also provides limited assistance for those who need help paying for abortion care and travel-related expenses. It has a toll-free hotline you can call seven days a week (excluding holidays): 1-800-772-9100.
Indigenous Women Rising
This abortion fund provides assistance for all Indigenous people in the U.S. and Canada who need help accessing an abortion in the U.S. The application requires a Certificate of Indian Blood, letter of descent, tribal college student ID, or other proof of belonging to a Indigenous community. Note that you must schedule an appointment before applying for funding.
Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project
Created in 1991 by a team of volunteers in Los Angeles, the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project has grown to become the largest independent abortion fund in the country. Through a comprehensive network of almost 700 clinics and providers, the WRRAP is able to provide funding and access to abortions and emergency contraceptives for residents in any state. Since its inception, the WRRAP has helped over 1,000 women each year pay for abortions and gain access to other medical tools.
