Mini fridges are convenient for offices, dorm rooms, and man caves, but you’d be wise to check any you may have. A recent mini fridge recall reveals that many are a legitimate fire hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission just issued a notice expanding a recall for mini fridges announced in July. Between the two notices, almost 1 million mini fridges have been recalled. Here’s everything you need to know about the problem, including what to do if you have one of the affected fridges.
What’s Wrong With the Mini Fridges?
The recalled mini fridges’ “internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing,” according to the USCPSC recall notice from July 24, 2025. That can cause the mini fridges to smoke or overheat, posing burn and fire hazards.
There have been over 30 reports of the recalled mini fridges “smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating and catching fire.” Two people reported smoke inhalation injuries from the mini fridges, and there has been over $700,000 in property damaged by the recalled products so far.
Which Mini Fridges Were Recalled?
The recalled mini fridges were manufactured by Curtis International, all under the brand name Frigidaire. All the affected products have Frigidaire on the front of the door, and hold six or 9 cans of soda. They were sold in a number of different colors, including black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver.

These are the model and serial numbers of the recalled Frigidaire mini fridges from the original July 2025 notice and the expanded January 2026 notice. You can find both on the label on the back of the mini fridge.
- Model EFMIS129, serial numbers between A2001 to A2308 (Note: if model number is “EFMIS129-B” or EFMIS129-C”, it is not included in the recall)
- Model EFMIS137, serial numbers between A2001 to A2312
- Model EFMIS149, serial numbers between A2001 to A2308
- Model EFMIS175, serial numbers between A2001 to A2310
- Model EFMIS121, serial numbers between A2001 to A2310
Most of the recalled Frigidaire mini fridges were sold at Walmart and Amazon between January 2020 and December 2023. They were priced between $36 and $40.
Frigidaire model number EFMIS121 was sold exclusively at Target and was red in color. They were sold from January 2020 through October 2023 for around $30.
What Should I Do if I Have a Recalled Mini Fridge?
If you have one of the recalled Frigidaire mini fridges, the USCPSC is advising you to stop using the fridge and unplug it immediately.
To get a refund for the recalled fridge, go to Curtis International’s website set up for the recall. There, you can enter the model and serial numbers to double check whether the product is part of the recall.
Once you’ve verified that it is, the company is instructing people to cut the power cord, write “recall” on the front of the fridge in permanent marker, and upload photos for proof. The company will send you a refund in the form of a check once those steps are completed.
