Despite it being prime pumpkin spice latte season, Starbucks isn’t doing so hot. Last month, the chain laid off 900 corporate employees, in addition to the 1,100 global employees it had let go earlier in the year.
At the time of the layoffs, Starbucks also announced it would close 1% of its locations, about 200 stores. The company did not release a list of affected locations, but since then, news organizations have compiled lists of Starbucks locations that have closed or are set to close soon. Here’s more information about the closures and the list of doomed Starbucks locations so far.
Why Is Starbucks Closing Locations?
Starbucks reported six straight quarters of lower same-store sales, according to the Associated Press. That has led the company to institute a cost-cutting strategy, and unfortunately, that includes layoffs and store closures.
The locations that are closing were identified as stores “unable to create the physical environment our customers and partners expect, or where we don’t see a path to financial performance,” the company said in a statement.
