From New York City: The Catskills, New York

If you have a well-maintained car and live in New York City, then you have a great destination just a 2- to 3-hour drive away: The Catskills. This region is full of mountains, hiking trails, lakes, and a charming town ready to welcome tourists. The secret to choosing this destination is to visit during the off-season, when skiing and the beautiful foliage are not at their peak. Plus, they have an extensive state land protections that limits development.

From Los Angeles: Big Bear Lake, California

From Atlanta: Blue Ridge, Georgia

Just a few hours from North Georgia mountains and a short drive from Atlanta, you’ll find Blue Ridge. From Dallas: Broken Bow, Oklahoma

If you’re looking for a landscape dotted with cabins and a dreamy lake, then Broken Bow, Oklahoma is the place for you. Among Texans, this destination is well-known for its hiking, fishing, kayaking, and camping, all along the shores of Beavers Bend. It’s considered a budget-friendly getaway, offering cabins at affordable prices compared to trips to Colorado.

From Washington D.C.: Shenandoah Valley, Virginia

They have lowered their real estate prices there, so it makes the city somehow affordable. If you live in Seattle, you should definitely mark this city on your list for when you have a few days off. From Miami: Key Largo, Florida

The great thing about living in Miami is that you can enjoy a paradise destination that millions of people travel for hours by plane to, but you have it just a few hours away by car. In Key Largo, Florida, you can snorkel, take boat trips, enjoy delicious seafood, and even have a beer at the bars along the coast. Tip: Stay in the Upper Keys area, which is cheaper than Key West because of the lack of luxury real estate market and nature focused destination like Miami.

From Denver: Estes Park, Colorado

Estes Park is primarily a nature focused national park gateway than a luxury ski resort and that makes it budget-friendly.

From Nashville: Chattanooga, Tennessee
