Toyota has issued a recall for more than 550,000 SUVs due to a problem with the second-row seats that could increase the risk of injury in a crash. The recall affects certain 2021–2024 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid models, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). If you own one of these vehicles, here’s what to know.
Toyota Seat Back Recall
The recall covers approximately 550,007 vehicles, including:
- 2021–2024 Toyota Highlander
- 2021–2024 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
According to the NHTSA recall notice, the second-row seat backs may fail to lock into position while being adjusted.
If the seat back doesn’t lock properly, it could move unexpectedly in a crash, which may prevent passengers from being properly restrained and increase the risk of injury during a high-speed collision.
The recall numbers are 26TB06 and 26TA06.
What Owners Should Do
Toyota says owners of affected vehicles should contact a dealership to schedule a repair. Dealers will replace the return springs in the seat recliner assemblies at no cost. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to affected owners beginning in April.
Consumers who have questions can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
