If you’ve got ground beef stored away in your freezer, it’s time to check the brand. A health alert was just issued for White Oaks Pastures ground beef by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service because it may contain foreign materials. Here’s what you need to know about the ground beef health alert.
What’s Wrong with the Ground Beef?
The affected ground beef packages “may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal,” according to the FSIS health alert. The problem was discovered by the company after it received two complaints from customers. No reports of injuries or illnesses have been reported, thankfully.
Technically, this is not a recall because the affected products are no longer for sale. However, the FSIS is concerned that people may still have the contaminated ground beef in their freezers so it issued a health alert instead, which is standard procedure in a situation like this.
