Going on vacation shouldn’t feel like you’re spending all your savings in just a couple of weeks. That’s why a great vacation doesn’t necessarily have to break the bank; it’s about finding the best possible experience on a mid-range budget. These affordable U.S. vacation spots offer quality accommodations, a wide range of natural attractions, and meals that are easy on the wallet.

Savannah, Georgia

If you’re looking for Southern charm, wide-open spaces to explore on foot, and historic architecture, then Savannah, Georgia is the place to book your next flight. Boutique inns and historic hotels are often less expensive than similar properties in Charleston or New Orleans, so take advantage of that. And you’ll notice it, when you see the oak-lined streets and a river flowing alongside, the atmosphere you’ll find is unlike anything you’d find in a luxury hotel.

It’s hard to resist the allure of Sedona, Arizona’s iconic red rock formations, and we mean that in the best possible way. Add to that stunning scenery the luxurious spas, exquisite dining, and it all becomes quite expensive. Unless, of course, your plan revolves around experiencing the real thing, where you can rent a cabin outside of peak season and still enjoy nature. Many budget-conscious travelers opt for this approach.

The beaches along the Gulf Coast, the vibrant arts scene, and the upscale restaurants of Sarasota, Florida, might deter some budget-conscious travelers. But while Siesta Key Beach is certainly an option, there are other, less expensive beach getaways. You can enjoy turquoise waters and pristine white sand for less.

Asheville, North Carolina

Upon arriving in Asheville, North Carolina, you’ll enjoy the mountain scenery, the breweries near town, the spas, and the boutique hotels, but don’t be fooled into thinking you’ll pay the same as you would in Aspen. The value that art and culture bring to a person is priceless, and you won’t spend all your savings there. Plus, the local taxes are lower in comparison to other cities, and the expenses get cheaper everyday.

San Antonio, Texas

Compared to other major tourist cities near Texas, San Antonio undoubtedly offers the most competitive prices. It’s no wonder the River Walk remains one of the most renowned urban vacation districts in the United States. You can find flat land for development there and historically lower median local wages. Add to that its pop culture and architectural history, which are on par with other cities, and San Antonio might just offer you more than you’re looking for.

New Port, Rhode Island

The Gilded Age mansions and stunning coastal scenery are just some of the landmarks that have made Newport, Rhode Island a well-known city. The trick to spending as little money as possible while visiting this beautiful city is to travel on weekends outside of peak summer season. You’ll notice the prices drop significantly. And you won’t need a luxury yacht to enjoy the beautiful coastal views.

Palm Springs, California

You might associate Palm Springs, California with golf courses, large swimming pools, luxurious spas, and other high-society features, but that’s not the case. You should pay attention during the summer, as prices drop considerably due to the intense heat. That’s when those boutique hotels and the city’s vibrant culture become truly appealing at an affordable price.

Lake Tahoe, Nevada/California

The mountain scenery combined with lakeside hotels and outdoor activities at Lake Tahoe makes for an appealing vacation for any style of traveler. But if you’re looking to save some money, you can travel during the off-season. After all, the mountains and lakes will still be there.

Charleston, South Carolina

In addition to the features we’ve already described in the previous slides, Charleston boasts impressive historic architecture and renowned restaurants. Its well-preserved districts might make it seem more luxurious than it actually is. Again, the key is to explore the city during the off-season to find the best deals.

Door County, Wisconsin

Who wouldn’t want to enjoy towns with a waterfall as part of the scenery? Or lakes where a good sandwich can make for a perfect afternoon? Door County, Wisconsin, offers all of that. The area is one of the most affordable in the Midwest and is much better than spending a fortune in New England. Its strong property tax to income balance makes it a friendly place to live. If you want to go boating, enjoy beaches, eat fresh seafood, and experience the local culture, look no further.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe’s adobe architecture will initially capture your attention during your first few days there, but you’ll soon discover the art galleries and spas. They enjoy the lack of state income taxes and inflated utility rates that occur in California and Colorado. The combination of desert scenery and distinctive architecture makes it a popular destination for travelers seeking out small boutique hotels whenever they have a spare moment in their schedule.

Road trips along the Georgia coast can offer you a variety of experiences, all in one place: beaches, historic towns, seafood restaurants, and marshland views at reasonable prices. Its rural location and self-sufficient member owned amenities can lower the cost of living. Popular destinations include Tybee Island and other coastal islands like Skidaway Island and Isle of Hope. The scenery remains pristine during the off-season. Enjoy it!
