Breakfast is an often overlooked, critically important piece of a fast-food restaurant. Maybe it’s your pre-work ritual, or maybe you’re in need of recovery from the bar last night. There are a lot of reasons you might be in search of the best fast-food breakfast burrito in the morning.
So which one should you choose? Which drive-thru line is worth putting yourself through? Welcome to the search for the ultimate breakfast burrito: fast-food edition. I ate my way through loaded breakfast burritos from five different fast-food chains and ranked ’em based on taste. Now you know where to grab breakfast tomorrow morning.

Best: Egg and Cheese Breakfast Burrito From Del Taco

$2.99
The genius of Del Taco’s breakfast burrito is in its simplicity, really. You can dress this burrito up with bacon and steak if you so choose (for an up-charge), but I assure you, there is no need. The way the Del’s tangy, signature red sauce soaks into the fluffy eggs and melty cheddar inside that warm flour tortilla is pure magic. It’s the best fast-food breakfast burrito in my eyes, now and forever.
2. SuperSONIC Breakfast Burrito From Sonic Drive-In

$4.69
Sonic has a wild array of breakfast dishes, but it’s the SuperSONIC burrito that really stands alone in its greatness. Packed with crispy tater tots, real tomato, jalapeños, and that little-bit-too-much cheese feeling, it’s the only fast-food breakfast burrito I’ve ever had that tastes like the outside world. You nailed it, Sonic.
3. Cheesy Toasted Breakfast Burrito With Bacon From Taco Bell

$2.19
Pricewise, this is a banger. The bacon has a good smokiness to it and the eggs are decently fluffy. Seeing as this is only one of two Mexican fast-food chains on this list, I really sort of expected them to soar a little bit higher. Perhaps the carne asada Breakfast Crunchwrap or the Grande Toasted Breakfast Burrito are where Taco Bell shines in the early hours.
4. Hash Brown Scramble Burrito From Chick-fil-A

$4.95
I obviously did this wrong. I know I made the wrong choice. This one’s on me, I get that. I’d never had Chick-fil-A’s breakfast, so I rolled through that drive-thru and absolutely panicked when the girl asked me what kind of meat I wanted in the burrito. She listed bacon, eggs, chicken, and something else I can’t remember because I was so caught off guard. I asked for chicken, because, like, Chick-fil-A, right?
Really whiffed it. The chicken and hash browns weren’t even a little bit crunchy. The whole thing was just a big, single-textured log made of broken tortilla pieces. Why do people like this place so much?
Chicken is a horrible call in a breakfast burrito, but I will concede that the eggs themselves were pretty strong, and I’m happy with the jalapeño salsa that shows up alongside. Maybe just stick to chicken biscuits.
5. Sausage Burrito From McDonald’s

$2.49
McDonald’s rules fast-food breakfast, but the Egg McMuffin is the only real reason behind that. This sausage and egg burrito is so much worse than everything else McDonald’s has; even the sausage itself seems to taste worse than the sausage patties used on the breakfast sandwich options. And you’re telling me this is MORE expensive than what Taco Bell is selling?
This thing is very dry, but the salsa provided is almost as sweet as ketchup, so I don’t need that anywhere near me. And why, oh why, are we using American cheese? Avoid this at all costs.
